in which I am 'in the market'
A small update:
First of all, what a difference an edit makes! After a weekend of tweaking and molding the rough draft I have something I am quite satisfied with and unashamed to show my beta readers. In fact, I'm very excited about this story once again, as I should be. It's amazing how much of it really came together in editing, in spite of the fact that the overall changes were comparatively minor.
Now a few close friends and relatives will get to take a whack at it. In the meantime, I sit here and wonder - what am I going to do with you, little story? This is often the question after I finish writing, and so often I don't have an answer. I don't write for markets. Sorry, I know, but it's a personal thing. I won't write for anyone but myself. If other people like it, that's great.
The question before me is simple - is there a market out there for a talky, slightly literary short story of just under 10,000 words set in a fictional coastal Georgia town? Your suggestions are welcome.

What's it about? Besides a fictional town in Georgia and being written in a literary manner?
Basically, it's about two young people from very different worlds meeting for the first time. As they wander around this sleepy little town in search of a collection of old notebooks they find out that they are connected in ways they never expected. Also, there is an epic game of marbles.
Sounds literary, all right :)
I'm not familiar with regional magazines for the South or Southeast, but you might try those. For anything else, I'd have to delve into the WD and see what comes up.
For literary mags, one site I found was http://newpages.com/npguides/litmags.htm There seem to be a lot of potential markets. This referenced site has contests listed, too, so you might consider those. Betcha get published if you win or get an honorable mention.
I would check out the major university presses, too.
Thanks for the link, I browsed through that a little bit last night. It's certainly given me some food for thought...
The internet is a wonderful thing. I still believe Writer's Market is the best source of info, though. But the internet is full of informative sites.
